IT Governance launches first certified EU General Data Protection Regulation training course in Europe

8.8.2016

IT Governance, the leading expert in cyber security and data protection, has announced the launch of the Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Foundation Online training course, designed to help European organisations achieve compliance and avoid costly fines once the Regulation comes into force on 25 May 2018.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) is new legislation that provides a single, armonised data privacy law for the European Union. With the increasing risk of data breaches from cyber attack, the GDPR aims to prevent the loss of personal data by improving data security for all individuals living in EU member states.

The Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Foundation Online course is delivered in a live interactive format and provides a comprehensive introduction to the GDPR. It covers the essential GDPR background and terminology, data subjects and their rights, marketing requirements and dealingwith subject access requests, international data transfers and the implementation path to complete GDPR compliance.

The course also supports professional development: delegates who pass the included online exam are awarded the ISO 17024-accredited EU GDPR Foundation (EU GDPR F) qualification by IBITGQ.

Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, confirmed, “All organisations in the 28 EU member states have until May 2018 to comply with the GDPR, or potentially face fines of up to 4% of annual turnoveror €20 million. The new requirements are complex and strict, and we are advising all of our customers to get started on GDPR compliance as soon as possible. The immediate adoption of some of its requirements has already been demonstrated in France. On 30 June, representatives of the French Parliament reached a common position on an amendment to the French ‘Digital Republic’ Bill to ensure that the GDPR obligation (article 13.2a) to inform individuals of the data retention period is implemented from October this year.”

He continued, “By providing an online introductory course for GDPR, we are able to offer European delegates the knowledge and practical understanding of the implications and legal requirements for organisations handling EU residents’ personal data worldwide.”

The next course is scheduled for the 23 August and runs between 11:00–19:00 CEST (GMT + 2).
