Europe’s first dedicated GDPR data protection officer qualification

11.08.2016

IT Governance, Europe’s leading expert in cyber security and data protection, has announced the launch of its Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner Online training course, designed to help European organisations achieve compliance with the new law and provide an internationally recognised qualification for GDPR data protection officers (DPO).

Under the GDPR, the appointment of a data protection officer will be mandatory for controllers and processors in the public sector, and for those with ‘big data’ processing activities. The DPO position will be a challenging role to fulfil, given the breadth of knowledge required to manage IT systems, and the requisite familiarity with the legal aspects of the GDPR.

The four-day Live Online Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner (GDPR) Online course is focused on enabling delegates to fulfil the role of data protection officer under the GDPR, and covers the regulation in depth, including implementation requirements, the necessary policies and processes, as well as important elements of effective data security management.

Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, confirmed, “I am delighted to announce the first accredited GDPR training and qualification programme in Europe. The requirements of the GDPR are complex and demanding, and there will be huge demand for qualified staff to deliver these requirements before the compliance deadline of 25 May 2018.

He continued, “It is helpful that the GDPR has defined the role of the data protection officer, and companies throughout the EU will want to ensure that these managers have appropriate independently accredited qualifications. We have specifically developed this course to meet the needs of individuals working in any EU country. Delegates save time and costs with our Live Online real-time training sessions, which are available from any location – home or office – with a broadband Internet connection. Those who pass the included online exam will be awarded the ISO 17024-accredited EU GDPR Practitioner (EU GDPR P) qualification by IBITGQ.

The first Certified EU General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner Online course is scheduled for the 25-28 October and runs each day between 11:00–19:00 CEST (GMT + 2).
